COMMENTS
Promotional issue.
Capitol records only issued four true promotional 45 singles in 1967 and 1968:
  • "Strawberry Fields Forever / Penny Lane" (Capitol P-5810, released february 1967)
  • "All You Need Is Love / Baby You're A Rich Man" (Capitol P-5964, released july 1967)
  • "Hello Goodbye / I Am The Walrus" (Capitol P-2056, released october 1967)
  • "Lady Madonna / The Inner Light" (Capitol P-2138, released march 1968)
This title is the first of those four green label promotional singles and accompanied by its own original capitol records generic sleeve.
All genuine pressings of this single were pressed at Capitol's Los Angeles plant (look for an asterisk * in the dead-wax) .

Capitol prepared its promotion copy of the single prior to receiving the new 2:57 mix. Thus, the promotion record lists  "Penny Lane" at 3:00 and contains Remix 11 with its unique rumpet solo ending. Capitol reportedly pressed later promotion records using the new mix; however, this has not been confirmed.
Promotion records, Capitol issued as double A side (Strawberry Fields Forever has lower master number).

Regular record:
First Press: Orange and yellow swirl label without "subsidary" print.
The picture sleeve, Capitol used the same pictures, graphics and layout of the British sleeve.
One side of the sleeve features a color photo of the group taken by Jean-Marie Perier.
This photo was taken the same day as the Strawberry Fields Forever /Pany Lane promo film shoots on 30 and 31 January 1967, in Knole Park in Sevenoaks.
The other side of the sleeve is designed to look like a page from a photo album, complete with mounting corners and childhood pictures of the Beatles.
A circlar "PRINTED IN U.S.A." appears in the upper right corner of the photo album side.
Initial pressings of the record incorrectly list the running time of "Penny Lane" at 3:00. The later issue was corrected 2:57 time.

There are East Coast and West Coast version.
East Coast press: picture sleeve issued in straight cut top.
West Coast press: picture sleeve issued tub cut.

Although discs with the 3:00 labels are first pressings, records listing the time as 2:57 sre slightly more valuable because fewer of these later discs were made.

A circled "PRINTED IN U.S.A." appears in white in the lower right corner of the "I Am The Walrus" side of the sleeve.

The first pressings of the single have labels on both sides listing "Maclen Music, Inc." as the publisher.
After Capitol learned that the publishing fot the "Magical Miatery Tour" songs, including "I Am The Walrus", had been assigned to "Comet Music Corporation", labels were revised to reflect the proper publisher.

Nearly all of the Capitol Beatles' records were pressed by Capitol on both the East Coast and the West Coast, but there is a RCA Custom label variation.
1) East Coast singles pressed with labels printed by Keystone Printed Specialities Co., Inc. of Scranton, Pennsylvania.
Picture sleeve: issued in straight cut top.
2) West Coast singles pressed with labels printed by Bert-Co Enterprises of Los Angeles, California.
Picture sleeve: issued tub cut.
3) RCA press
Label: Song titles was printed in very narrow and thin font.

Some of the later West Coast pressings have a LA wide font label with the "Comet" credit on the "Hello Goobye" side.
