COMMENTS
|
"Ya Ya, part1 & 2" and the ver. 2A
of "Sweet Georgia Brown" were released for the first time ever in
any countrty on the first edition of this EP. At this time these recordings were only released in mono and the fact is that the first stereo edition of this version of "Sweet Georgia Brown" has not been released on a record. The EP record is one of the greatest rarities among all of the Tony Sheridan / The Beatles releases on the Polydor label. It was on this EP record that the very rare original recording of "Sweet Georgia Brown", without any comments about The Beatles in the lyrics, from May 1962, was released for the first time on a record. During the 60's, this version of the song was released, apart from the Greek single edition: "Sweet Georgia Brown / Ya Ya (NHH 66849)" from 1962, only on the EP. All of the editions of this version of "Sweet Georgia Brown" until today have only been released in mono. No official stereo edition of this recording has been released by Polydor. The first edition of the EP record was released in October 1962, according ti the information on the back of the cover, not in May 1961 as is often erroneously claimed. The first edition from 1962 has orange Polydor label. The next edition of this EP has red labels and was released in 1964. The only difference between the covers of the 1962 and 1964 edition is that there are different release / production dates in the lower right hand corner on the back. Otherwise the covers are identical. The artists, according to the record's labels, are "Tony Sheridan And The Beat Brothers" . The version of "Skinny Minny" was already avaible on record in Germany, both in mono and in stereo when this EP was released. "Ya Ya Part1&2", like this version of "Sweet Georgia Brown", had on the contray never before been issued on record in any country. The song "Ya Ya part1" was later included on the LP "The Beatles' First" but with the title "Ya Ya". The Beatles only play on the recording of "Sweet Georgia Brown" on this EP. *Sweet Georgia Brown: Lead Vocal: Tony Sheridan Ver. 1A: Backing play: The Beat Brothers (No Beatles) Ver. 2A: Backing play: The Beatles Ver. 2A+: Overdub vocals with new lyrics to Ver. 2A Ver. 2A++: Overdub electric guitar and drum to Ver. 2A + Ver. 3A: Backing Play: The Bobby Patrick Big Six (No Beatles) "GEMA*/BIEM**" :a marking that indicates what company is responsible for the copyright payments for the material released on the record to the proper publishers. It is important to remember that a record with the above-mentioned marking isn't necessarily made in Germany but which was intended for sale in Germany. *GEMA=German music authors' society **BIEM=Bureau International de l'Edition Mécanique |
