This rare PROMOTIONAL 45 is a genuine 1964 German white-label pressing on the Polydor label: 52 906
Not released in the U.K., German records were imported.

The 'A' side label is mysteriously credited to 'Tony Sheridan- Vocal backed by "?"
The 'A' side has 'F.D. & H Ltd' (an abbreviation for the publishers 'Francis Day & Hunter) and 'Released 31/1/64' written in back ball-point pen.
Housed in an original German orange Polydor sleeve.

Sweet Georgia Brown. Tony Sheridan first recorded Sweet Georgia Brown on December 21, 1961, at the Musikhalle in Hamburg, without Beatles involvement. Then, on May 24, 1962, the Beatles recorded the backing track for the song at Hamburg’s Studio Rahlstedt. This Paul McCartney arrangement featuring John on rhythm guitar, Paul on the bass, George on lead guitar, Pete Best on drums and Roy Young on piano. John, Paul and George also provide backing vocals. Tony Sheridan added his lead vocal two weeks later on June 7. On January 3, 1964, Tony Sheridan recorded a new vocal track under the supervision of producer Paul Murphy in Studio Rahlstedt, using the Beatles’ backing track from May 1962. This is the most common version of Sweet Georgia Brown. The mono version was first released on the this single.

The recording was also made in Harburg’s Friedrich-Ebert-Halle on June 22 & 23, 1961. In January 1964, Tony Sheridan recorded a solo version of Nobody’s Child without the Beatles. This is a solo version used for the B side of this single.
