The Beatles' 19th British single, and their first for 1969, was Get Back, with Don't Let Me Down on the b-side. Get Back single - United KingdomIt was the first commercial release from the troubled Get Back sessions of January 1969. Many takes of the songs were recorded that month, before both sides of the single were taped on 28 January. Get Back was issued as Apple R 5777. Although the official release date was 11 April 1969, many stores didn't receive copies until several days later, as Paul McCartney had ordered a remix on 7 April. He had been unhappy with the earlier mix after hearing it played on BBC Radio 1 by Alan Freeman and John Peel the previous day. Despite the rush-release, Get Back entered the UK singles charts at number one on 23 April, where it remained for six weeks. In all it spent 17 weeks in the charts. Although just one new song (Dig A Pony) by John Lennon made it onto the Let It Be album, he did compose this love song to Yoko Ono, which was recorded during the same sessions and released as the b-side to Get Back. (from "The Beatles Bible") |

COMMENTS
|
Unlike the distinctive
green/red & white labelled demonstration copies of their
Parlophone singles, Apple never produced any specially printed 'A'
label demo labels for any Beatles single. In fact, the only true
demo from this late period which does officially exist is
'Something'/'Come Together' which appeared as a green & white
Parlophone demo in October 1969. This disc originated from the collection of an ex-radio station employee who received this copy specifically as a promo of the Beatles' forthcoming release in late March 1969, just ahead of its 11th April release date. Both sides also bear the earliest possible '1/G' stamper codes. The 'KT' purchase-tax code is present in both run-outs only. |

This label is with push-out
center type. The "Sold in U.K." text has gone from the label. Beginning in 1964, Parlophone (and all the other EMI companies) began printing a phrase in the centers of all their singles, EP's and LP's, which said: SOLD IN U.K. SUBJECT TO RESALE PRICE CONDITIONS, SEE PRICE LISTS. This notice appears on the labels of every UK market EMI product, from very early 1964, right through mid-1969. |

COMMENTS
|
All of these Apple singles
were custom manufactured without centres by EMI specifically for use
in jukeboxes. The inside of each hole is smooth confirming that a
centre was never present. There are two types of the jukeboxes issue of the "Get Back" single (maybe). Type-1: Dark green apple label and "narrow" catalog number printing on the label. (=this record) Type-2: Light green apple label and "broad" catalog number printing on the label. |
