The first commercial
record released that the Beatles played on was Tony
Sheridan's My Bonnie /The Saints (When the Saints Go
Marching In) (Polydor
NH24673), released in Germany in the fall of 1961. The first commercial release of a record bearing The Beatles' name was My Bonnie / The Saints, released as a single in the U.K. on 5 January, 1962. This release also featured for the first time the slow English introduction for My Bonnie. First pressings of this disk are very difficult to find (A.K.A. 'broad' title). It was reissued in Britain in June of 1963 with a slightly different typeface (A.K.A. 'narrow' title). 1st. and 2nd. pressing of the single differ from each other, since 1st. press of the label, has a different typeface in the text of the record's label compared with 2nd. press. The difference is most obvious in the letters 'M' and '&'. 2nd.pressing was manufactured two ways: both with and without the push-out center. There were two versions of "My Bonnie" introduction, one with the slow German spoken intro "Mein Herz ist bei dir nür", and another only in English. This version is slow English spoken introduction: "My Bonnie lies over the ocean". *My Bonnie: Lead Vocal: Tony Sheridan / Backing play: The Beatles Version AA: German intro. at the beginning Version AB: English intro. at the beginning Version A: without intro *The Saints: Lead Vocal: Tony Sheridan / Backing play: The Beatles Version A |
