COMMENTS

"Something New" is The Beatles third Capitol LP release and fifth American album overall, following the United Artists release of A Hard Day's Night. The album includes eight songs from the original British release of A Hard Day's Night, as well as the tracks "Slow Down" and "Matchbox" from the Long Tall Sally EP and the German-language version of "I Want to Hold Your Hand".
The album was released in both mono and stereo versions. All mono mixes of the five songs duplicated from the United Artists soundtrack album are identical on both releases. Something New was the only early Capitol Beatles album to contain all tracks in true stereo.
The mono release contains alternative versions of:
> "I'll Cry Instead" (with the "missing" third verse)
> "Any Time At All" (a different mix during the instrumental bridge)
> "When I Get Home" (the line "Till I walk out that door again" during the song's bridge has a different vocal passage from the UK mono mix)
> "And I Love Her" (McCartney's non-double-tracked vocal)
> "If I Fell" (Lennon's non-double-tracked introductory vocal)

The front cover of the album features a color photograph taken by Ken Veeder of the group's 9th. February 1964, Ed Sullivan Show debut.

The black liner has the title graphics centered at the top above THE BEATLES. The song titles and running times appear below the group's name on the right side.
The liner notes are followed by the first of what would become a series of dubious production credits. Dexter's sole contribution to the album was the selection and sequencing of the songs.
The lower portion of the back liner features images of the covers of the first two Capitol Beatles albums and "The Beatles Song Book by the Hollyridge Strings". The first three Capitol singles are also plugged.
The usual factory information is centered at the bottom and the RIAA logo is in the lower right corner.

The minor color variation among covers is due to the front slicks being prepared by differeint printers. Front slicks were printed on:
1-1) East Coast: Queens Litho in New York
1-2) East Coast: Ivy Hill Lithograph Co. in New York
2) West Coast: Bert-Co Enterprise of Los Angeles.

When "Something New" was originally issued, Capitol had factories in
1) Scranton, Pensylvania
2) Los Angeles, California
3) In mid. 1965, added a pressing plant in Jacksonville, Illinois. (Stereo Only)

Capitol did not fabricate its own album covers. Capitol required the cover manufacturer to place a factory identification number on the back liners. The fabricators added a small number, usually in the lower right corner.

1) The East Coast were printed by Keystone Printed Specialties, Inc. in Scranton, Pensylvania.
2) The West Coast were printed by Bert-Co Enterprises in Los Angeles, California.

The East Coast and West Coast mono label variations:
1-1) First pressings of the East Coast label misspell one of the German translator's name as "Nichoras" rather than "Nicoras" in the writer's credit to "Komm, Gib Mir Deine Hand".
1-2) First ''West Coast'' pressings have this credit correctly. The tracklisting on the label tends to the right hand side and aligns with the ''M'' of ''Something'' from the title
2-1) Second "East Coast" Pressings correct the error with "Nicoras".
2-2) Second ''West Coast'' pressings have the credit correctly too. The tracklisting on the label is moved to the middle of the label.
